What to expect at a Biomechanical/ MSK Assessment

When attending an appointment for a Biomechanical/ Musculoskeletal Assessment It is important that you bring the 3 pairs of footwear that you wear most regularly and a pair of shorts to change into for your examination this will enable our Podiatrist to give you a full examination and check your posture, muscular and joint function as necessary.

At the assessment our Podiatrist will start by taking a detailed history of the problem and may include a visual assessment of a selection of your existing footwear, a sitting, lying and standing assessment of your posture, feet and lower limbs including joint movement, muscle strength and foot shape. You may then be asked to stand and walk/run across a Dynamic Footscan plate to identify areas of high pressure on your feet or anomalies in your gait.

Once our Podiatrist has completed your assessment, they will give you a diagnosis of your problem and discuss the treatment options available to reduce your pain and improve your function.

These can include orthotics, exercise rehabilitation therapy, footwear advice, medicines, mobilisation, strapping and taping, gait retraining, shockwave therapy and musculoskeletal laser treatment.

Our Podiatrist will provide a bespoke treatment plan for you to take away summarising the advice and information that has been discussed and suggesting your next steps.
