It is important to identify any problem early
Annual Foot Health Assessments
Patients with diabetes and health conditions, such as rheumatoid arthritis, vascular disease, kidney disease, and neurological conditions, benefit from annual foot assessment.
This is a more proactive approach to foot health and can detect early signs of change, enabling us to provide guidance on foot management and plan ongoing care to prevent potential foot problems and action referrals where necessary.
Regular podiatry appointments are a crucial component in maintaining overall foot health and addressing specific concerns for those with at risk feet.
Our Podiatrists conduct a thorough foot assessment including a review of general health, medication, risk factors, an evaluation of overall foot health and mobility, as well as an assessment of vision and the individual’s ability to self-care.
A vital component of the assessment involves a check of the circulation. Our Podiatrist will check foot and leg pulses, use Doppler to listen for any abnormalities and view waveforms.
Ankle and toe pressures may also be measured if deemed necessary, This is a comprehensive evaluation of lower limb circulatory health.
Neurological assessment includes reflex testing and the individual’s ability to perceive light touch, vibration, and differentiate between blunt and sharp sensations in the feet. This evaluation is crucial in determining if there’s any loss of sensation and assessing the individual’s ability to protect their feet from potential damage.
At the end of the assessment, our Podiatrist provides personalised education and advice, tailored to the individual’s specific needs. A treatment plan is formulated collaboratively with the patient to proactively prevent foot problems. With patient consent, this information is shared with the general practitioner to ensure comprehensive and coordinated care.
