Ultrasound Assessment

Ultrasound Assessments for Foot and Ankle Pain

Ultrasound imaging is a safe, risk-free and painless procedure. It is a non-invasive, and highly effective diagnostic tool that provides real-time insights into soft tissue conditions affecting the feet and ankles.

Our lead podiatrist Kay holds a PG Cert in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound. She offers ultrasound assessments to confirm our diagnoses and guide corticosteroid and hyaluronic acid injections used to treat foot and ankle pain. Ultrasound guidance means the injections can be given precisely to improve efficiency.

What is an Ultrasound Assessment?

Ultrasound, uses high-frequency sound waves to produce detailed images of soft tissues, tendons, ligaments, joints and bony surfaces. Unlike X-rays, which primarily visualise bone structures, ultrasound enables us to visualise the soft tissues and bony surfaces. It can also be used to dynamically assess movement of structures, making it an invaluable tool for diagnosing foot and ankle pain.

Benefits of Ultrasound Assessments for Foot and Ankle Pain

· Accurate Diagnosis – Identify conditions such as plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendonitis, neuromas, ligament injuries, and bursitis.

· Real-Time Imaging – View soft tissues in motion, helping assess tendon movement abnormalities and inflammation.

· Guided Injections and Treatments – Improve precision in administering corticosteroid injections, hyaluronic acid and other targeted treatments.

· Non-Invasive and Radiation-Free – Unlike X-rays or CT scans, ultrasound is completely safe without radiation exposure.
